OUR LADY,
QUEEN OF FAMILIES PARISH
President for Catholic Women's League, Mary Queen of the World Council, Mt. Pearl
Provincial President Catholic Women's League for Newfoundland Labrador
I was born in rural Newfoundland and moved to St. John's to resume my studies. After completing my education, I worked for the Health Science Centre for 24 years, then accepting a position at Memorial University for 16 years as a Food Service Manager.
I met and married my husband in 1975, moving to Mt. Pearl where we have lived for 43 years. We have two adult daughters and two grand-puppies, Zoe and Bella.
Upon retiring 15 years ago, I continued to be active in Our Lady, Queen of Family Parish, volunteering for Hospitality for Mass, Presentation of Gifts and Funeral Hospitality.
I'm an ambassador for the Education Program at The Rooms, as well as an ambassador for Tourism, where I have the opportunity to greet travelers on the cruise ships as they arrive in St. John’s. I enjoy golfing, bike riding and reading, and will be a volunteer for the 2025 summer games in August.
I have been a member of the Catholic Women’s League, Mary Queen of the World Council Mt. Pearl for 6 years. I’m currently in my second term as Council President until January 2026.
In 2023, I was elected to the Catholic Women’s Provincial Council for Newfoundland Labrador as Secretary; in October 2024, I became Interim President; and in May 2025, was elected Provincial President.
The Catholic Women’s League origins began in Edmonton in 1912, our Mission statement; The Catholic Women’s League of Canada calls its members to grown in faith and to witness to the love of God through Ministry and Service. Across Canada we have 60,000 members in eleven councils.
The Catholic Women’s League provides a space for women to connect, share their faith journey and build friendships. We strive to create a just and peaceful world through activities and advocacy efforts. The league works to empower women within the church and society recognizing their unique talent and gifts.
I certainly acknowledge the guidance and continuous support from the other sisters, who have played a sufficient role in my League journey. The League has enabled me to meet many wonderful women. As President I will work with all Council Presidents and members to ensure our councils keep going strong and pushing forward, by responding with Here I am Lord, send me.
